Visits

What's more fun than a lobster eating pizza? A school visit from me!

I love visiting schools and talking with students about being an author and illustrator.

My talks usually consist of explaining about how a picture book is made. I keep it upbeat and fun!

My presentations can be catered to your group's needs. I work with all ages.

Topics covered in my presentations can include my background as an author with an emphasis on writing, editing, and the need for multiple revisions. I also talk about being an illustrator and go through of the process of creating thumbnails, and a "dummy" book. The relationship between picture and text is also covered. Other topics include idea generation and story development.

I will bring in sketches, thumbnails, drafts with notes on them, and more from previous works and current projects. A live drawing demo is usually done as well. The audience gets to participate and the group gets to keep the finished illustration. Depending on the audience I can do a book signing too.

In addition to schools I also give presentations to libraries, conferences, and more.

For my virtual Skype presentations the group must be previously acquainted with my books. Skype visits that are 15 minutes are free, 30 minutes is $50, and 45 minutes is $75.

My in person presentations start at $400. Bookstore visits are free! Library visits and scout visits are based on individual budgets.
